MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s football team got back into the win column — in convincing fashion — and evened its record at 2-2 with a 49-7 victory over visiting New Milford on Friday.
Aaron Champagne ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for two more, and Michael Charland had two TDs to lead the way.
Champagne opened the scoring on an 13-yard run then connected with Charland on a 29-yard TD pass. Champagne added an 18-yard TD run before Cole Henderson scored from a yard out. Champagne then connected with Ricardo Teixeira on a 32-yard score.
Charland’s second touchdown came on a 40-yard run. Masuk’s defense got in on the act with Mateo Pereira intercepting a pass and returning it 61 yards for a score. Masuk built a 49-0 lead by halftime and coasted in the second half.
Champagne completed 10 of 12 pass attempts for 215 yards and had three rushes for 32. Charland rushed eight times for 64 and had two receptions for 44 yards. Pereira had three tackles.
After a bye week, the Panthers are back on the road to face Killingly Friday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. The next home game is not until Nov. 7 when Joel Barlow visits at 7.
