Masuk baseball team to host state playoff game after extra-inning exit in SWCs

Nico Convertito and the Panthers will host a state playoff game on Monday, June 1.

MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High’s baseball team, coming off a 4-3 loss in nine innings to New Fairfield in the SWC Tournament semifinals on Tuesday, will host a game in the first round of the Class L State Tournament.

Masuk is the No. 12 seed and will face No. 21 New London on Monday, June 1, at 3:30 p.m.

Against SWC No. 2 seed New Fairfield Masuk’s Sam Giampe pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief allowing only one earned run.

Al Morgenthaler had an RBI single, a double and scored a run. Nico Convertito had an RBI single and an RBI double. Steven Curtin also singled. Masuk was the No. 3 seed.

New Fairfield went on to defeat No. 4 Newtown 8-5 in the championship at Bethel High’s field on Thursday.
