Masuk baseball team set for tough schedule

Colin Hope is among the key returning players in the Masuk lineup this spring.

MONROE, CT — The Masuk High baseball team will begin the spring season Saturday, March 30, with an out-of-conference game at Trumbull at 12 p.m. This is the first of several games in which the Panthers will challenge themselves against top-tier Connecticut opponents.

Masuk is playing a challenging schedule with games against six top-20 teams: No. 4 Trumbull, No. 6 Southington, No. 11 Brookfield, No. 12 Joel Barlow, No. 14 Fairfield Ludlowe and No. 18 Woodland. Brookfield and Barlow are fellow South-West Conference foes.

The home opener is Monday, April 1, against Brien McMahon at 4 p.m.

The Panthers are led by Coach Brian Hourigan, recently appointed Masuk athletic director, and their five seniors: Dan Curtin (left-handed pitcher/first baseman), Carson Falcone (catcher), Colin Hope (outfielder; and captain, All Colonial Division 2023), Justin Feinstein (right-handed pitcher/third baseman and captain) and Quinn McGuire (left-handed pitcher/first baseman and captain).

The team also has a mix of younger players who will contribute in important roles:
Chris Welch (Jr. 3B/1B/C), Jacob Mondo (Jr. LHP/OF), Jackson Zylick (So. OF), Even Alderman (Jr. 2B), Drew O’Hara (Jr. RHP/1B), Chris Cascella (So. SS), Steven Curtin (So. RHP/INF), Ryan Cubelli (Jr. OF), Matt Falcone (Jr. C), Justin Fanning (So. RHP) and Henry Barba (Jr. RHP).
