Masuk baseball team beats New London 4-1 in first round of states

Austin Patti and the Panthers will be on the road for the second round of the state playoffs.

MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High’s baseball team, the No. 12 seed in the Class L State Tournament, defeated visiting and No. 21 New London 4-1 in the first round on Monday.

Graham Gabriel pitched a complete game allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking one.

Jackson Zylick scored Masuk’s first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, Nico Convertito doubled and then scored on a Nate O’Hara RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Austin Patti scored on a Steven Curtin sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fourth Matt Boyle doubled and later scored on a Nate O’Hara RBI ground out.

Masuk will visit No. 5 seed Kaynor Tech on Tuesday, June 2, at 3:45 p.m.
