Kurkoski reaches assists milestone, but Masuk falls to Simsbury

Nathan Kurkoski and Mathias Adaeh go up for a block during action this spring. Kurkoski reached 2,000 assists in the team's state playoff defeat in the semifinals on Tuesday.

HARTFORD, CT — Despite a loss in the Class M State Tournament semifinals, the No. 5 Masuk High boys volleyball team had something to celebrate. Nathan Kurkoski collected 31 assists and, in the process, reached 2,000 assists for his career — quite an accomplishment in the setup department.

The Panthers were defeated 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) to top seed Simsbury in their match at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy on Tuesday.

Daniel Ferris recorded 17 kills and Michael Majerski had eight kills. It was a nice season for the Panthers, including a trip to the SWC Championship match.
