Kirberger sets records as Masuk swim and dive team places fourth in SWC Championships

Brendan Kirberger broke the Masuk record in the 200 yard individual medley race in a time of 1:59.37 during the SWC Championships.

MONROE, CT — Led by Brendan Kirberger’s two team record-setting swims and another first-place finish by Keller Hall, the Masuk High boys swim and dive team placed fourth in the South-West Conference Championships.

The swim events were hosted by the Panthers Friday night. Pomperaug of Southbury hosted the dive competition on Wednesday.

Pomperaug won the overall competition easily with 711 points, Weston was second with 376, followed by Newtown with 320.50 and Masuk with 300.50. Brookfield rounded out the top five with 293.

Kirberger set new school standards in the 200 yard individual medley event in a first-place time of 1:59.31 and set the mark in the 100 breaststroke race in a first-place time of 1:02.11.

Keller Hall was first in the 100 butterfly clocking in at 53.87.

Masuk’s 200 medley relay comprising Jack McHugh, Kirberger, Hall and Mert Baykus was second in 1:41.84.

Baukus took sixth in the 200 free in 1:56.35.

Mason Eannotti  was 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.11.

In the 50 free Alex Malecki was 13th in 24.44 and McHugh was 15th in 24.83.

Jon Ganino was 14th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.86 and Akshaj Yerragudi came in 17th in the fly in 1:04.76.

In the 100 free Baykus came in 14th in 55.09 and Jacob Urkawich was 15th in 55.62.

Yerragudi came in 14th in the 500 in 5:44.53.

In the 200 free relay McHugh, Kirberger, Hall and Baykus placed third with a time of 1:33.13.

The 100 backstroke event featured McHugh placing third in 57.45, Hall fifth in 58.20, Eannotti eighth in 59.93 and Will Hardy 12th in 1:02.70.

In the 100 breaststroke Urkawich was 13th in 1:12.76 and Malecki was 15th with a time of 1:13.57.

Masuk’s 400 free relay of Eannotti, Julian Logan, Yerragudi and Malecki was sixth in 3:56.85.

Gavin Chila was seventh in diving with a score of 225.40.
