Jockey Hollow track and field team excels during first meet

BETHEL, Conn. — The Jockey Hollow Middle School track and field team recently traveled to Bethel to compete against Bethel, Whisconier and Dover middle schools in its first meet of the year. Several Lions placed in the top five in their events, on a day with five first place finishes.

“We are so proud of every student on our team,” said Donald Casey Jr., who is in his fourth year as Jockey Hollow’s coach. “Each student tried their best and established personal records in their events. Overall, a superb effort by the entire team.”

Below are the top five performers in each event:

55 Meter Hurdles: Boys: Robert Potash (4th), Spencer Yuskas (5th)

4 x 100 Meter Relay: Girls: Aubrey Van Rensburg, Alexandra Verdisco, Elizabeth Hizuleuski and Alyssa Zurich (2nd); Kashvi Kalaria, Emelyn Jackson, Allison Gorgas and Ashlynn Colon (4th)

Boys: Jariel Aries, Jordan Castillo, Liam Schule and Max Wolfe (3rd);  Amar’e Marinez, Brian Marini, DavidKupieiev and Evan Huber (4th)

400 Meter: Girls:  Alexandra Verdisco (3rd)

Boys: Max Wolfe (3rd)

1600 Meter: Girls: CeCe McAndrew (3rd)

Boys: Benjamin Beckwith (4th), Joseph Alarcon (5th)

100 Meter: Boys: Liam Schule (5th)

800 Meter: Girls: Nora Foley (1st), Allison Gorgas (5th)

Boys: Dean Rubin (1st), Benjamin Beckwith (2nd)

200 Meter: Girls: Elizabeth Hizuleuski (2nd), Alexandra Verdisco (4th)

4 x 400 Meter Relay: Girls: Allison Gorgas, Elizabeth Hizuleuski and Emelyn Jackson (2nd), Nora Foley, Siena Illy, Jazmine Sanchez, & Abigail Goss (3rd)

Boys: Joseph Alarcon, Jordan Castillo, Nick Morelli and Max Wolfe (2nd); Benjamin Beckwith, Anthony Modugno, Dean Rubin and Eli Sims (3rd)

Long Jump: Girls: Abigail Goss (3rd)

High Jump: Girls: Elizabeth Hizuleuski (1st), Madison McKitty (4th)

Boys: Liam Schule (1st), David Kupieiev and Max Wolfe (3rd place tie)

Shot Put: Girls: Elizabeth Hizuleuski (4th),

The Jockey Hollow Middle School Track and Field team competed in its second meet last Friday, May 1, Bethel and Whisconier Middle Schools at Masuk High School.
