Joan ‘Sam’ Remenyi will be greatly missed by all who loved her

Joan “Sam” Remenyi

Joan “Sam” Remenyi, of Shelton, passed away on April 24, 2023 at the age of 80.

Born in Dunmore, Pa., she was the daughter of Nicholas and Rosetta Borsch. Joan attended Bassick High School. She worked at Gateway Bank in data entry and was later employed with Yale New Haven, also in data entry, where she worked until retirement.

Joan was a member of the Nutmeg Karting Association in Shelton and served as the association’s secretary. She loved racing go-carts. Her love of racing also included years of Saturday visits at the Danbury Fair Race Arena to watch the stock car races.

Later in life, Joan was a resident at Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes. At Apple Rehab, she met the recreation director, Noreen, who helped her get involved in the community and make new friends, with one of her closest friends being Pam. Joan served as the resident council secretary and was later elected as the vice president.

Joan was well known for her coloring skills and helped with many projects. She also loved to play bingo, read, and do her word search books.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Alexander Remenyi. She is survived by her son Carl Voelpert of Maine, and her daughter Christine Neale and her husband Christopher of Monroe. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Alyssa and Joseph Neale, both of Monroe.

A visitation for Joan will be held this Friday, April 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Spadaccino and Gallagher Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe. A funeral service will follow, at the funeral home, at 6 p.m.

Friends and family are also invited to the funeral home, Saturday, April 29, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. for a visitation followed by a graveside service at Monroe Center Cemetery, Old Tannery Road in Monroe.

Joan’s family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes, Griffin Hospital, and hospice for taking such good care of Joan.
