Jackson Zylick’s clutch hitting, fielding lifts Masuk’s baseball team to victory

Jackson Zylick, in action last spring, had a tremendous game with three hits, four RBI, three stolen bases and a game-saving catch against Barlow.

MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High’s baseball team outscored visiting Joel Barlow 11-7 behind a great all-around effort from Jackson Zylick on Wednesday.

Zylick drove in four runs on three hits — he doubled in the fifth inning to drive in two runs and singled in the sixth to knock in two more. In the field, he robbed Barlow of a potential game-tying grand slam to end the game. He also ran the bases well with a trio of steals.

It was a comeback victory for Masuk, which trailed 6-1 in the fourth. Masuk’s Connor Fulchino hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first. The Panthers scored five runs on five hits to take the lead, 8-7 in the fifth.

Masuk tallied 12 hits in the game. Nate O’Hara collected three hits. He and Zylick hit back-to-back in the order and were a combined force at the plate.

Matt Boyle had two hits in three at bats. Fulchino led Masuk with three of the team’s seven walks.

Austin Patti earned the win. The righty allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Graham Gabriel had the save. Masuk turned one double play in the game.

The Panthers are at Kaynor Tech on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
