Hartford’s position is Monroe is a ‘wealthy’ town, hence does not require ECS funding

Dear Editor,

Thank you, Superintendent Kobza, for making the case to Connecticut Education Sub Committee regarding ECS funding. I hope that you were successful in making the case for towns such as Monroe.

I cannot help but be concerned that the Super Majority in Hartford may be tilted to support the cities, and the ECS calculations might reflect that in the end. After all, it is the Cities which helps keep the Super Majority in Control. I am also concerned that Sen. McCory (D) representing Hartford/Bloomfield/Windsor, who is currently under FBI investigation for mishandling of “earmarks” may be distracted from reworking the ECS model.

It has been Hartford’s position that Monroe is a “wealthy” town and hence does not require ECS funding, let’s hope relief is soon on the way.

Regards,

Sean O’Rourke
