MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High’s girls soccer team will compete for its first state championship in program history Saturday night. The No. 2 Panthers travel to Hartford’s Trinity Health Stadium to face No. 5 North Haven at 6:15 p.m.
Both teams advanced in dramatic fashion with the Panthers prevailing 2-1 over No. 6 Rocky Hill on Ella McGee’s two goals and North Haven upsetting top seed East Catholic 2-1 (3-2 in penalty kicks following double OT) on Wednesday.
“So proud of the team. The girls played incredibly and everyone put forth such great effort,” Masuk Coach Katy Kreiner said of the effort against Rocky Hill.
Standouts included McGee, Tiny Fabryk with tremendous play in the offensive third, and Emily Poole and Alex Cecchino with shutdown defense, Kreiner said.
“Now we’re ready to go take home the Class L title for the first time in school history,” Kreiner said. “Should be a great final versus North Haven.”
This is the deepest the Panthers have gone in the state playoffs in nearly 10 years. They reached the state title games in 2012 and 2016.
