Former Town Clerk Kay Inderdohnen left her mark on Monroe. She will be missed

Thelma Kay (Ulbrich) Inderdohnen, of Monroe, died on February 1, 2025. She was 91-years-old.

Kay was born in Meriden on September 18, 1933 to the late Carl and Ruth (Karcher) Ulbrich. Raised in New Britain, she graduated from New Britain High School and Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Mass., with an Associate’s Degree. She was recruited from college by the federal government to work in Washington D.C., where she met her husband Robert, from Fairfield, who was then stationed at Quantico with the Marine Corps.

They married in 1955 and moved back to Connecticut in 1961.

Kay was active in town, serving as Deputy Republican Registrar of Voters, as a member of the Board of Police Commissioners, as a Town Council member, on the Charter Revision Commission, and as Certified Election Moderator.

She retired as Town Clerk and Registrar of Vital Statistics after an enjoyable 20 years of service, and then had an equally enjoyable 15-year association with Edith Wheeler Memorial Library as part-time Library Aide in the Children’s Room. She volunteered for many years in the Stepney Elementary School Library, the Masuk High School Library, and Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.

She was a member of the Monroe Scholarship Committee and the Monroe Women’s Club, and was active for many years in St. Stephen’s R.C. Church as Catechist, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and member of the Women of St. Stephen.

She is survived by her two sons, John and Mark (wife ReeAnn Tennille), and grandsons Matthew Inderdohnen of Long Island, N.Y., Samuel Inderdohnen of Monroe, and Thomas Goclowski of Massachusetts, sister-in-law Dr. Holley Ulbrich of Clemson, S.C., sister-in-law Doris Karcher of Watertown, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of the Ulbrich, Karcher and Inderdohnen families.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Robert William Inderdohnen, and their beautiful little daughter Carolyn, her brothers, Dr. Carlton W. Ulbrich and Robert Karcher, sister-in-law Elizabeth Inderdohnen Newman and brother-in-law William Newman.

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 4-7 p.m. at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull, on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
