MONROE, Conn. — This week marked the 49th anniversary of the tragic death of Renee Freer, an 8-year-old Monroe girl whose life was violently taken in the woods behind her Williams Road home on June 22, 1977. Nearly five decades later, Renee’s family, friends, neighbors and supporters remain unwavering in their commitment to seeking justice, preserving her memory and transforming her story into meaningful change.
The mission of the Justice for Renee Freer movement is simple but powerful: “Justice for Renee Freer means changing the law in Renee’s name and leaving her with a powerful legacy forever.”
For 49 years, those who loved Renee have refused to allow her story to fade into history. Through advocacy, public awareness, community engagement and the pursuit of legislative reform, they are determined to ensure that Renee’s life continues to make a difference for future generations.
Over the past month, the Justice for Renee Freer team coordinated a community-wide tribute campaign that brought together family members, lifelong friends, neighbors and supporters to share heartfelt video messages, audio recordings and personal reflections honoring Renee’s life. - Appearing on national podcasts and expanding awareness of Renee’s case to audiences across the country

Despite this progress, advocates say their work is far from complete.
