Eleanor Cooper was the first to have 8 of her children graduate from Masuk

Eleanor Helen Cooper, long time resident of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in Shelton. She was 98.

Born in Byram, Conn., Eleanor was the daughter of Thomas George Hendrick and Helen Mary Coleman. She graduated from Port Chester High School. Eleanor and her husband Calvin were married September 25, 1944 while Calvin was in the Navy.

She worked as a sales associate for Bloomingdales in Stamford. She also worked at People’s Bank at several branches as a teller. Eleanor and Calvin were co-owners of the World of Gifts retail store located in Monroe.

She participated in several local bowling leagues. She and Calvin spent many summers traveling the east coast in their camper trailers with their large family of eight children acquiring many lifelong friends along the way.

During post retirement, Eleanor and Calvin enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home experiencing some very memorable times together as they toured different sites. The Eleanor and Calvin Cooper family were known in Monroe as the first family to have graduated eight children from Masuk High School.

Eleanor was a member of St. Jude Parish in Monroe. She will be remembered for being a loving, caring and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She provided support and encouragement to her large family, while managing the household. She and Calvin always had room for one more at the dinner table.

Eleanor is survived by her eight children, Wayne (Dawn) of Annandale, N.J., Barbara (Jon) Girardi of Palm City, Fla., Nancy of Leland, N.C., Dennis (Janet) of Monroe, Bradley (Alice) of Wimauma, Fla., Jeffrey (Janet) of Danville, K.Y., Kathy (John) Provenzano of Milford, and Douglas (Tonia) of Huntington.

She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Taryn (Gary Branin), Megan (Scott) Zebio, Justin (Jill), Pamela (Richard) McKinney, Kimberly (Timothy) Piccini, James Kozelouzek, Andrew (Kristen) Kozelouzek, Bridget, (Rommy) Ferreira, Patrick (Emily), Colleen (Christopher) Cormier, Lauren (Timothy) Meyer, Robin, Michael, John (Sarah) Provenzano, Nicole (Gregory) Sawicki, Jessica, Melissa, Kristina and Darrin.

Eleanor is survived by 26 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brendan, Madeline, Victor, Mia, Benjamin, Luke, Ashlyn, Alexander, Victoria, Amanda, Jack, Brooke, Lilly, Addison, Dylan, McKinnon, Declan, Charlotte, Rex, Emmabelle, Matthew, Rowan, Callan, Caleigh and Clara.

She is also survived by several nephews and nieces, and her sister-in-law Lois.

Additionally, Eleanor is survived by her extended family including 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Eleanor is predeceased by Calvin her loving husband of 64 years, her loving parents Thomas and Helen, her cherished grandson Christopher, sister-in-law Olive, as well as two brother-in-laws, Stanley and Alvah.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours, Monday April 1, 2024, 5 to 7 p.m. at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Funeral Service to be celebrated privately on Tuesday by immediate family.
