Cumberland Farms reopens after grease spill

The Cumberland Farms store and gas station is at 455 Main St. in Monroe.

A grease spill temporarily closed the Cumberland Farms store and gas station at 455 Main St. earlier Thursday morning, but First Selectman Ken Kellogg says the business reopened by 11:43 a.m.

“They had a grease trap issue,” Kellogg said. “Some of it went into the storm drain, so the DEEP had to come in.”

He said the gas station and convenience store was temporarily closed during the cleanup, so customers would not track the grease into the building.

The store’s management worked closely with the Monroe Health Department and Fire Marshall Bill Davin to do a proper cleanup and reopen.

“They had their contractor out there to do the clean up right away,” said Kellogg. “It was just an accident. Things happen.”
