PLANTSVILLE, Conn. — Donald M. Casey Jr., head coach for Masuk and Jockey Hollow Middle School Unified Sports teams, was honored with the 2026 George Synnott Middle School Unified Sports Coach of the Year Award from the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference and Special Olympics Connecticut, during the annual Unified Sports Awards Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club on April 27.
Paul Cavaliere Jr., of Special Olympics/Unified Sports Connecticut, presented the Coach of the Year Award to Casey. Cavaliere read quotes from students currently on the Masuk and Jockey Hollow Middle School teams highlighting their positive experiences in Unified Sports.
Masuk Athletic Director Brian Hourigan said, “Don Casey is an exceptional coach with a truly remarkable heart. No matter the setting, Unified Sports or track and field, he puts students first, caring deeply about their well-being and growth. His positivity is contagious, and he has a gift for lifting up everyone he encounters.”
