Charles I. “Charlie” Edgerton, formerly of Monroe, passed away peacefully in Southbury on August 8, 2022, his 94th Birthday.

Born August 8, 1928 in Springfield Massachusetts to Elsie (Schwab) and Irwin Edgerton. He was a graduate of Bassick High School’s Class of 1946 in Bridgeport.

After high school he joined the Marine Corps and upon his return home he proposed to his high school sweetheart Freda Jane White. Charlie and Freda married in 1949 and went on to have three children together.

After completing his education at New York Technical Institute and working in the HVAC field he went on to open Charles I. Edgerton Heating and Air Conditioning in 1956.

Charlie was a lifelong member of the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), a founding member and former president of Connecticut Heating and Cooling Contractors Association (CHCC), a philanthropist and a force in the Connecticut HVAC industry.

He is survived by his son Reid (Kelly) Edgerton, his daughter Carol (Geoffrey) Briand, sister Grace Edgerton, grandchildren Matthew (Amy) Briand, Peter Briand, Chloe and Emily Edgerton. Great grandchildren Derrick, Haley, Ethan and William Briand and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by Freda his wife of 70 years, their son Mark, his parents Elsie and Irwin and his granddaughter Sara.

Charlie was a founding member of the Connecticut Heating and Cooling Contractors Association a 501-C organization, that supports the HVAC trade. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are being accepted by CHCC in Charlie’s name to further promote tradespeople in Connecticut.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday August 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home located at 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, Connecticut. Burial will be private. Online condolences may be left at SpadaccinoFuneralHome.com.
