Beloved by her students, King to be remembered for her resolve, love, care for others

Barbara Janet Caserta King

Barbara Janet Caserta King, longtime resident of Monroe, and currently of Trumbull, passed away suddenly on June 21 at the age of 75.

Born in Bridgeport, Barbara was the daughter of Frank and Amelia Caserta where she spent her childhood years. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in education followed by a Master’s degree at the University of Bridgeport, succeeded by a 32-year-long career in the Bridgeport Public School system.

A devoted teacher, Barbara was beloved by her students and remembered by her colleagues having served as an elementary educator and then a reading consultant.In 1995 Barbara was granted the Teacher of the Year Award in representation of the town of Bridgeport. Barbara was determined in making education her life’s work as she touched hundreds of young minds throughout her career.

Barbara was a longtime parishioner of St. Jude Parish in Monroe as well as a member of the Monroe Jaycees, Women’s Club and Monroe Welcome Wagon.

Barbara enjoyed traveling with her cousin, valued reading, and loved cooking for and spending time with her family on Sunday nights.

Having lost her father at a young age, Barbara quickly became a woman of independence and surviving strength. She was a constant reminder of what it meant to be involved in one’s religious faith and truly have trust in God.

Barbara not only abided in God through the most crucial points in her life but portrayed her beliefs to those around her. She was an honest and open person who was always there to listen and engage in conversation. She will be greatly remembered for her resolve, love and care for others, and her loyalty.

Barbara is survived by her son George, his wife Denise, and her three grandchildren: Angela, Anthony and Amelia. She was predeceased by her husband George, son David and daughter-in-law Marie.

Friends are invited to calling hours Wednesday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. The funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Parish, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe.
