MONROE, Conn. — Those interested in learning more about the Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service, considering becoming a member themselves, or who want to learn how to perform CPR and to stop bleeds during medical emergencies are welcome to attend the nonprofit’s open house at EMS headquarters, 54 Jockey Hollow Road, on Sunday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event, which is open to the entire community, includes lunch from a local sandwich shop, snacks and refreshments, Jim’s Ice Cream Truck, and ambulance and station tours. Visitors can learn how to build their own first aid kit, and can access summer safety information, and take part in family-friendly activities.
In addition to meeting the men and women who volunteer their time to help their neighbors, attendees can talk to representatives from local healthcare organizations, including Griffin Hospital, St. Vincent’s and Bridgeport Hospital.
They can also learn about MVEMS’ Steady Steps program, volunteer membership opportunities, upcoming CPR certification courses, a Stop the Bleed class sponsored by the Rotary Club of Monroe, and EMT classes, which start this September.
