MONROE, CT — The Monroe Registrars of Voters put out a statement explaining problems with tabulators at Fawn Hollow District 1 and Monroe Elementary School District 3 this morning and how issues were addressed to ensure every vote counts.
Below is their statement:
Prior to Election Day, all tabulators were successfully pre-tested and sealed for the election, per statute, by the Registrars of Voters and Deputy Registrars of Voters.
On the opening of the polls this morning, two districts reported issues to the Head Moderator and Registrars of Voters.
At Fawn Hollow District 1, ballots were not being read by the tabulator and returned to the voter. The auxiliary bin was offered for voters to deposit their ballots while the issue was addressed.
The Head Moderator and Moderator of the polling place corrected the ballot box issue as of 6:30 a.m.; at that point ballots were being accepted as normal through the tabulator. All auxiliary bin ballots will be processed through the tabulator at the end of the night, per established emergency procedures.
At Monroe Elementary District 3, one in roughly 10 ballots were not being read by the tabulator and returned to the voter. The auxiliary bin was offered for voters to deposit their ballots while the issue was addressed.
The Moderator of the polling place and a Deputy Registrar replaced the tabulator that was not reading ballots as of 7 a.m.; at that point ballots were being accepted as normal through the tabulator.
All auxiliary bin ballots will be processed through the tabulator at the end of the night. All ballots that were cast through the original tabulator were sequestered and sealed and will be processed through the second functioning backup tabulator at the end of the night, per established emergency procedures.
Election integrity is intact in Monroe.
