MONROE, CT — Masuk High School and A.D.A.M.’s annual “Have the Conversation,” a forum on underage drinking and substance abuse, will be viewed online again this year.
Assistant Principal Mark Schwarz said a YouTube link will be sent out to all freshmen when the video goes live at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
“They have to watch the video and we strongly encourage them to watch it with a parent or guardian,” he said.
The viewing meets a freshmen health curriculum requirement and last year’s video was watched by around 95 percent of the freshmen class, according to Schwarz.
The forum features a lineup of speakers with expertise in law enforcement, the courts and in counseling people with addiction. At the end, Masuk Principal Steve Swensen will make closing remarks and a QR code will appear on the screen, taking viewers to a short survey on Google Docs.
The event is co-sponsored by A.D.A.M. (Alcohol and Drug Awareness of Monroe), the local prevention council led by co-presidents Tammy Julian and Elizabeth Grose.
Schwarz said a link to the YouTube video will be posted on the Monroe Board of Education’s website for any members of the public who want to see it.
“We’re encouraging parents to have the conversation about various substances and social hosting laws with their children,” he said of the primary goal of the forum.
