MONROE, CT — Monroe is averaging about two-and-a-half new cases of COVID-19 per day, just as booster shots are more readily available.
In an update on the pandemic, First Selectman Ken Kellogg said there are booster recommendations for all three COVID vaccines.
For those who received Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot six months or more after their initial series:
- Everyone 65 years and older
- Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings, have certain underlying medical conditions, or who workor live in certain high-risk settings
“Those age 18 and older who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine two or more months ago are recommended to receive a booster shot,” Kellogg said.

Mixing & Matching: Both the FDA and CDC recommendations now support individuals to receive a booster dose that is a different vaccine type than they originally received for their primary series, if they so choose.
“We have placed vaccine orders with the State, in anticipation of running booster clinics for eligible groups starting in early November,” Kellogg said. “Individuals may also search for healthcare systems and pharmacies in our area that are providing vaccinations from the link on our website at www.MonroeCT.org/COVID-19.”
“Next week we anticipate final authorization for a Pfizer pediatric vaccine for ages 5-11,” he said.
Kellogg said the town expects this vaccine to be available through multiple sources, including some pediatrician offices.
“We are working with Monroe Public Schools to determine parental interest in conducting a town-sponsored clinic,” he said. “Families should be on the lookout for an email tomorrow through School Messenger. Parents of Monroe students who do not attend school in Monroe may indicate their interest by emailing [email protected].”
According to the Covid 19 new case color charts for CT, 10 – 14 new cases per day per 100,000 population is coded Orange with 15 or over colored Red. And according to the town of Monroe’s website, the population of Monroe is 19529. That is roughly 19.5% of the 100000 population number. So, if Monroe is averaging 2.5 new cases per day that would be roughly equal to 13 new cases per day for a population of 100,000. (13 x 19.5% ). So, for the town of Monroe, a 2. 5 new case number should be in the Orange range not the Yellow range currently shown .
