Donald Koneff, 86, of Monroe, passed away, December 12, 2024. He was born in Harrisburg, Penn., to the late Tode and Anna Koneff. Donald graduated from Lycoming College in Pennsylvania, attended Rutgers University and earned a Master’s degree from Montclair State University in New Jersey.
He was very involved in the community, serving as past president for the Rotary Club in Monroe, and was an active member of the Monroe Democratic Party. He also served on the Monroe Board of Ethics.
He was a High School English Teacher, Vice Principal and Director of Curriculum in various New Jersey Schools before moving to Monroe, where he taught as an adjunct Professor at Sacred Heart University, Housatonic Community College and two private high schools. He also owned and ran his own insurance business.
He had a passion for flying and earned a pilot’s license, enabling him to fly solo, which he did on many occasions. He was an avid reader and loved to write, dabbling in short stories, novels and screenplays.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Susan Ann (Shaw) Koneff; his two sons Douglas Koneff and his wife Eugenia, and David Koneff and his wife Carole; his brother David Koneff and his wife Susan; four cherished grandchildren Alexander Koneff and his wife Maribel, Sophie Koneff, Max Koneff and Paula Gomez Herrera, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Some of the most important moments in his life were those spent with family and grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Burial will be private. Friends may greet the family at the viewing on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 4 – 7 p.m.
