Takumi Ramen is Monroe’s place for noodles, hibachi and Boba teas

MONROE, CT — Takumi Ramen & Grill, 435 Main St., offers a variety of noodle dishes with chicken, beef and seafood, as well as meals prepared in a hibachi kitchen for its patrons. The restaurant, which also has a selection of Boba teas, recently opened at Stepney Crossing.

Alan Yang learned the business, while working for 20 years as a hibachi chef at his brother Guang Jin Yang’s restaurants in Mississippi, before finally opening his own place.

“He just bought his house here and wanted to open a restaurant in Connecticut,” said Vivi Lin, Yang’s cousin, who owns Fusion 25 in Newtown with her husband, Danny Huang.

The couple has been helping Yang and his wife, Eva, get the restaurant started. The business had a soft opening last Tuesday and celebrated its grand opening Thursday afternoon.

Spring rolls, fried wings, crab rangoon and other appetizers were served when town officials stopped by for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

First Selectman Terry Rooney, Economic and Community Development Director William Holsworth and several members of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission participated in the ceremony.

Sippin Commercial Real Estate owns the shopping center and brothers Mark and Gary Sippin, and Gary’s son, Eric, also attended the event to support their new tenant.

“The restaurant looks great,” Gary said. “It’s an excellent addition to the center. It’s a different food offering. It’s not typical.”

Eric said he liked the modern look of Takumi Ramen & Grill’s dining room.

Loud cheers filled the room after the ribbon was cut.

“On behalf of the town of Monroe, we’d like to welcome this new business,” Rooney said. “We don’t have a business like this in town, so we like to see diverse businesses in our town — and this is fantastic. Thank you once again to the Sippin family for always bringing quality businesses into this town. We wish you a lot of years of success.”

Takumi Ramen & Grill is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m. For a menu and takeout orders, visit its website by clicking here.
