MONROE, CT — A 21-year-old Shelton man told a police officer he was speeding and passing vehicles on Route 110, because he was trying to take someone to the hospital. However, there were no passengers in his gray Honda Accord, according to police.
He was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop when signaled by an officer, increasing speed in an attempt to escape an officer, passing in a no passing zone and failure to obey a stop sign. He was released on $250 bond for a Sept. 23 court date.
At approximately 10:43 a.m., a police officer observing traffic from the Monroe firehouse parking lot, at the corner of Moose Hill Road and Route 110, saw a Honda Accord traveling east on 110 fail to stop at the four-way stop sign, according to the report.
When the officer followed the car and activated the lights and siren on his police vehicle, the Honda accelerated at a high rate of speed toward Shelton, passing several vehicles along the way, police said.
Police said the driver finally pulled over just before the Shelton line, about two-and-a-half miles after the officer signaled for him to stop.

The other driver, a 52-year-old Trumbull man, was heading south on Moose Hill Road, according to police.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. Police said there were no injuries and the brown Honda was towed due to disabling damage.
