MONROE, CT — A 30-year-old Danbury woman turned herself in on a warrant Saturday, charging her for the alleged attack on a barista at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 34.
On May 5, police were dispatched to the store at 1:47 p.m., after the employee, a 17-year-old Monroe male, complained that a female customer threw a hot cup of coffee at him.
He reportedly told officers there was a disagreement over whether she placed an online order through her mobile app, and it turned out the order was made to the wrong location.
Police said the woman asked for a free coffee and the employee said he couldn’t do that without the manager’s permission, so she left the store.
But then the employee received a mobile order from the same woman and was putting it together near the drive-thru window, when she came back into the store and started asking why he didn’t make the coffee in front of her.
After buying her coffee, police said the customer began to walk away, before complaining that the coffee cup was only half full. She allegedly threw the cup over the counter, hitting the employee, as hot coffee spilled down his pants to his shoes, according to the report.
Through their investigation, police identified the customer and applied for an arrest warrant. She was charged with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault and released on $5,000 bond for a July 19 court date.
Garbage truck crash
A trash hauler told officers he may have fallen asleep when he drove his 2020 Freightliner truck off the road on Route 59, near the Easton town line, striking about 105 feet of guardrail, before slamming into a tree late Friday morning.
Police said the 55-year-old New Milford man was not injured. He was issued an infraction for operating a commercial motor vehicle without a proper license and a heavy duty wrecker was brought in to tow the Ness Industries LLC truck.
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Officers remained at the scene, while Connecticut Department of Transportation employees made repairs.
Public intoxication
A 78-year-old Trumbull man was issued a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace after allegedly creating a disturbance in the Jersey Mike’s Subs parking lot at 143 Purdy Hill Road Friday evening.
Around 6 p.m., police were called about a man, who appeared to be stumbling to his silver Nissan sedan, nearly falling down.
Officers arrived to find a man bleeding from an injury to his upper lip and with blood on his shirt, leaning against his car for support, according to the report.
While speaking to the Trumbull man, officers determined he was intoxicated, and police said he allegedly tried to get into his car and drive away.
Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel were called in to evaluate the man due to the his level of intoxication, the report said.
Police said he became belligerent and uncooperative, while creating a disturbance for customers going to and leaving the businesses on the property. Officers also learned he was creating a disturbance prior to their arrival, according to the report.
He was released on a promise to appear in court on July 29 and taken to Bridgeport Hospital to be evaluated for his condition. Police said they believe his injury was from a fall. His Nissan was towed from the scene.
