MONROE, CT — A 27-year-old Trumbull man reportedly lost control of his blue 1986 Ford Mustang while heading north on Main Street late Friday night, before going off the road and into the Chuck’s Corner parking lot, hitting the brick base of a business sign, two yellow bollards and an unoccupied red 2005 Honda Accord in a parking space, according to police.
The driver told officers he attempted to accelerate when the back of his Mustang started to slide and he lost control of the vehicle, police said. The crash occurred around 11:16 p.m.
The Mustang sustained heavy front end damage and had to be towed from the scene and the driver was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel for treatment of his injuries.
He was issued a ticket for failure to stay in the proper lane.
The Honda, which belongs to a Shelton man, was damaged, but did not need to be towed. Police said the property owner was notified about damage to the sign and bollards.
Speeding and more
A 37-year-old Bridgeport man, who was stopped for allegedly speeding on Hattertown Road in a white 2007 Scion Saturday evening, was arrested on several motor vehicle charges and police said he had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court.
Police stopped the driver’s vehicle near Mountainside Drive after he allegedly went 38 mph in a posted 25 mph zone at approximately 5:54 p.m.
An officer learned the man was driving with a suspended license, that the car was unregistered and he had no insurance, according to police.
The man was charged with operating under suspension, operating without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle and traveling unreasonably fast and held on $500 bond.
Police also learned of a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court in the second degree and another warrant for failure to appear in the first degree for prior arrests, each carried a $5,000 bond.
He posted all three bonds and is scheduled to appear in court April 29.
Main Street crash
A 24-year-old Danbury man lost control of his gray 2007 Toyota Camry, while heading north on Main Street (Route 25) early Friday morning, crossed over the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic, hit a curb and collided with some bushes, before coming to final rest in the front yard of a residential property in the 100 block of Main Street, according to police.
The driver was treated for injuries at the scene by Monroe Volunteer EMS personnel, before being taken to a hospital.
He reportedly told officers he was driving in his lane when someone cut him off, making him swerve. He was issued a warning for failure to stay in the proper lane.
Police said the crash occurred around 6 a.m., just south of Crescent Place.
Fraudulent tax filing
A 45-year-old Monroe man went to H&R Block to file his 2023 taxes when he was alerted to a possible fraud, according to a complaint filed April 15.
Police said someone in Kansas City, Mo., had already filed a fraudulent tax form using his information.
The man had previously filed an unemployment fraud complaint with police, but was unsure whether the two incidents were related, according to the report. He was advised to monitor his financial accounts.
