Burglars target Enterprise Rent-A-Car for second time this year

Start

MONROE, CT — Burglars used a rock to smash the glass door to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 75 Main St., early Saturday morning and stole a key lockbox from the wall. However, there were no keys inside the box, according to police.

Officers also found an electronic keypad, which appeared to have been ripped off, in the parking lot and that a paper shredder in the building had been damaged.

Police responded to an alarm at 3:22 a.m. Video surveillance footage showed three men dressed all in black, with black hooded jackets and masks, break the front door to enter the business, steal the key box and leave within two minutes.

There was no video footage of the vehicle they arrived in, according to the report.

Monroe police detectives processed the crime scene and are handling the investigation.

Thieves hit Enterprise in February

This is not the first time Enterprise Rent-A-Car was targeted by burglars this year. Early in the morning on Feb. 10, video showed two burglars break a window and open a door to the business, where they broke into a lockbox where keys are kept.

The burglars, who were not alone, drove off with four vehicles, a gray 2021 Dodge Ram, a black 2021 Audi Q7, a white 2022 Land Rover Velar and a black 2020 Nissan Armada, according to police.

Later in the day, officers recovered three-of-the-four vehicles — in Seymour, Shelton and Fairfield, with the exception of the Dodge.

Police said thieves steal the cars to commit crimes with vehicles that won’t be traced back to them. They leave the stolen vehicles on the sides of streets and in parking lots and come back to for it later. If it’s not there, the thief figures cops recovered it, police said.
