ROCKY Hill, CT — The Monroe Soccer Club U12 Boys team won two games and tied two other contests in the 2022 Rocky Hill Columbus Day Classic Tournament Sunday. The unbeaten record was good enough for a first place finish.
“I am super proud of my MSC U12 Boys and happy they ended up in first place, champions of the 2022 Rocky Hill Tournament,” said Coach Carlos Reinoso Jr. “Their faces and excitement said it all! Many know that my ultimate goal is to instill a love and passion for the beautiful game and these moments help propel that goal.”
Monroe’s team beat West Hartford 2-1 and tied Norwalk 3-3 on Saturday, then topped Garden City, Long Island, 6-1 and tied Norwalk again in the final, 1-1, on Sunday. Monroe won the championship based upon goal differential.
“We have a hard-working young team of players who give it their all, and this weekend was an example of that,” Reinoso said. “I tell them all the time that I believe in them and know that each and every one of them has potential.”
The coach said his team always strives to play for and represent three things: Their team and club, the town of Monroe and their family, because their last name is on the back of their jerseys. “They represented all three very well,” Reinoso said.
“I’m also proud of my son, Noah Asher who is the last of the Reinosos going through the Monroe soccer programs,” he said. “I’ve been coaching for 19 years now, since my 24-year-old son was five-years-old.”
“I’ve coached at the travel and premier club level as well as at the high school level and I believe that the best and most fun experience is when our children play for their town,” Reinoso said. “When they play for their town, they usually play alongside their classmates, neighbors and friends which is great for development both on and off the field. They ultimately end up playing together again for the town high school program.”
