A win and a loss for the Masuk boys soccer team

MONROE, CT —  The Masuk Boys Soccer team faced off against Bassick at the University of Bridgeport Stadium on Oct. 12.  Through the drizzly surroundings, both defenses were able to withstand multiple advances on goal.

Bassick struck first with 18:16 left in the half going into halftime with the lead, 1-0. The rain was uncompromising for the entire game creating a slippery pitch. Bassick scored with 26:49 left in the second half.

Masuk’s lone goal was scored by Cash Dewey (sophomore) with 21:12 left in the half.  Bassick was able to net one more goal, leaving the score 3-1 and dropping Masuk’s record for the season to 9-3-1.
On Oct. 17,  the team traveled to face Weston at Weston High School. The Panthers quickly jumped ahead to 2-0 with scores from junior Cole Wrigby and sophomore Mateo Iacono. Weston responded swiftly but eventually came up short by the score of 4-2.  The two additional Masuk goals were scored by senior captains Owen Correll and Tristen Pike.
“Defensively, we were able to stop their best player, Casper Leary,” said Coach Cavanaugh.  “Captain, Tristan Pike and Tommy Warner did a great job shutting him down all night.  Ryan Terkildsen and Nicholas Rodrigues on the right and left were able to contain the constant pressure from Weston.  Connor Kehlenbach made some huge saves for us all night.  Actually, Connor has been amazing for us all year.  This was a huge win, especially missing one of our key players.  A lot of guys stepped up tonight”, complementing his defense and his stand-out goalie.
Senior Night vs. Pomperaug is Thursday at 6p.m.
