Win over New Milford propels Masuk softball to the semifinals

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s softball team is in the South-West Conference Tournament semifinals. The host and No. 2 Panthers defeated No. 7 New Milford 13-3 in the quarterfinals on Sunday. With the win, Masuk will take on Immaculate of Danbury at Stratford’s DeLuca Field this Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Julia Bacoulis surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits over seven innings, striking out 7 batters and walking one.

Alyssa Castillo came up big for Masuk with a squeeze bunt with bases loaded; the play resulted in three runs being scored on overthrows, and Castillo reached third on the play.

Castillo went 3-for-5 with singles and 4 RBIs. Ella Bunovsky went 2-for-3 with two bunts for base hits. Izzy Viglione went 2-for-3 with two singles. Grace Ely went 2-for-4 with a double and a single. Madison Aguirre and Sofia Lieto each contributed with a double. Bacoulis had a single.
