MONROE, CT — Police responded to complaints of a rash of thefts from vehicles in the parking lots of several restaurants along Main Street Thursday night.
“We’re in the holiday season, so thieves are aware people often leave more valuables in their car, including gifts and money, and they appear to be targeting these areas in hopes of stealing these items,” Lt. Stephen Corrone said Friday.
“We ask residents not to leave valuables in their car and to make sure they lock their vehicles,” he continued, “and if they see suspicious activity, don’t approach people, call us and we’ll come out there.”
Police will also do more to prevent future thefts.
“We’ll be patrolling these lots to deter any would-be thieves,” Corrone said.
At 8:28 p.m. Thursday, police officers were called to Roberto’s Restaurant, 505 Main St., where three unlocked vehicles were entered and tools were taken, according to the report.
At 9 p.m., officers responded to a call at Vazzy’s Osteria, 415 Main St., for a report of multiple vehicles entered and items taken. Police did not release further details at this time.
The driver’s side window of a vehicle was smashed outside Sal’s Family Pizza, 630 Main St., and a purse containing $500 cash was stolen from the seat, police said. This was reported around 9:50 p.m.
A case of white wine was stolen from the trunk of an unlocked vehicle outside Carl Anthony’s, 477 Main St., according to police.
I think the thieves should be beaten at the town square tied to a post for all to see 🥴 Then bring back the chain gang and dressed in bright strips with Thieves printed across there chest ! Maybe if the punishment fits the crime they’ll think twice 🤔
In many cases throughout the country these are the results of the “no bail” or catch and release policies. Not necessarily in our local but I won’t be surprised if became policy since we’re living in a “blue state”.
