Small businesses in Monroe promote health and wellness, each other

Joanne Fox, right, had a prize wheel for customers to win prizes at her business, Your CBD Store Monroe, 574 Monroe Turnpike, Sunday.

MONROE, CT — Joanne Fox hosted a celebration of Your CBD Store Monroe’s anniversary with a prize wheel and giveaway baskets at her location, behind 574 Wines at 574 Monroe Turnpike, Saturday. A representative of CycleBar, another one of the town’s newer businesses, which recently opened at Century Plaza, was also on hand to speak to customers.

The event was an example of how Monroe’s small businesses support each other. The food table included cheeses and crackers donated by 574 Wines and a cinnamon coffee cake and blueberry muffin bread was provided by Mariola’s Cafe: Bakery & Deli, which recently opened at 464 Main St.

Paola Alvalle, a Masuk High School senior, represented CycleBar Monroe, 535 Monroe Turnpike, at Your CBD Store’s anniversary celebration Sunday.

Rachel Giliotti, who opened CycleBar, an indoor cycling franchise location, sent a member of her team, Paola Alvalle, a Masuk High School senior, to Your CBD Store’s celebration.

“Rachel has been a great business partner,” Fox said. “Small businesses in the health and wellness space formed a partnership to help the Monroe community on their wellness journey.”

“We love collaborating with other small businesses to promote each other,” Giliotti said. “Anyone interested should reach out.”

Your CBD Store has over 600 stores in the U.S. and the U.K. Fox opened Your CBD Store Monroe in March of 2021. “We’ve been growing and coming out with new products for health and wellness,” she said of its line of SunMed products.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive, naturally-occurring compound extracted from hemp plants. CBD will not create a “high” and is non-addictive, according to Fox.

All SunMed CBD products are made from USDA organic Hemp. With special formulations of botanicals and cannabinoids to deliver unique health benefits to our bodies. Using a whole plant extract including flavonoids, terpenes and other cannabinoids ( cbg, cbn, cbc) to work together in perfect synergy, according to Fox.

“Our stores are an inviting educational space where consumers can learn about cannabis and its many uses for people and pets, and try free samples to see which form is best for them,” she said.

Your CBD Store Monroe added new essential oils, including immune system support and a weight loss product called TRIM, and Hydrate, which is packed with electrolytes like calcium, potassium, sodium, chloride and magnesium, as well as vitamins B6 and B12.

SunMed and Your CBD Store signed on as the official CBD and hemp products sponsor for the Association of Pickleball Professionals Tour.

Glow rides

On Sunday, a table in back of Your CBD Store Monroe displayed CycleBar water bottles and tote bags, a member signup sheet and a raffle for a free month of rides and four months at 50 percent off, before switching to the Founders’ Rate at 25 percent off.

Alvalle started working at CycleBar before it opened, promoting the new gym at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church’s Apple Festival, at Shelton Day and at Insports in Trumbull.

“I love CycleBar. It’s definitely a great family environment,” she said.

That morning, Alvalle said all 45 stationary bikes were taken for CycleBar’s 9:15 a.m. class.

“It’s been going pretty well,” she said. “We always hope for more members. The classes are going well. People are starting to get to know each instructor. Some like a chiller class. Some are like, ‘let’s make it like a rave!’ It’s a huge party on a bike for sure.”

Alvalle said glow rides are the most popular among members. The lights go out and the bicycles glow in the dark. “We decorate the room,” she said. “We do balloons.”

Sometimes there are two instructors with playlists for music battles. One was Harry Styles vs. Taylor Swift. “It was a lot of fun,” Alvalle said.

“Our theme rides have been popular,” Giliotti agreed. “Our instructors really bring the energy to motivate you to do your best workout.”
