Photos-Video: Monroe police mourn the loss of K9 Murphy

Start

A post on the Monroe Police Department’s Facebook page Wednesday announced the recent passing of Murphy, a retired K9 who served the town for seven years:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired K9 Murphy. Murphy died this afternoon with his handler, Sergeant John McAulay, by his side.

K9 Murphy served the Monroe Police Department from February 9th, 2015 until his retirement on October 27th, 2022.

During their career together, K9 Murphy recovered narcotics, apprehended felons, reunited lost loved ones and won many awards for excellence.

Perhaps K9 Murphy’s greatest contribution to the community were the countless demonstrations he and Sergeant McAulay did for children and seniors and he was always the biggest hit at our annual Monroe Night at the Park.

Thank you for your service K9 Murphy. Rest in Peace.
