First Selectman Terry Rooney watches town workers pave Wheeler Road, near the Shelton line.

MONROE, CT — A public works crew paved a stretch of Wheeler Road Friday morning. A dump truck fed asphalt into a paver, laying a fresh layer over one lane as men raked behind it. First Selectman Terry Rooney observed all the activity.

“There were so many complaints about Wheeler Road. I had to get it done right away,” Rooney said. “Since I’ve been in office, I’ve pretty much driven every road in town, so I know what has to be done. I know of other roads that need work. I ask the citizens to be patient with us, because the weather hasn’t been cooperating.”

The rainy spring has also affected field maintenance. The first selectman said his office recently received a complaint about a lacrosse field that needs to be mowed.

“People have been out mowing in the rain to prepare fields for this weekend,” he said.
