SHELTON, CT — Monroe Congregational Church’s volunteers woke up early Friday morning to pick strawberries at Jones Family Farms for the annual Strawberry Festival on the Town Green in Monroe this weekend.
They will also pick fruit today (Saturday) and expect to gather 400 pounds of strawberries over the course of the weekend.
A berry disease forced Jones Family Farms to destroy some of its crop this year, so the church will supplement its haul with strawberries pre-ordered from Big Y.
Inside the church kitchen, volunteers will bake a total of 200 pies for the festival.
The festival, which also features crafters, food trucks, live music and more, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Thank you Monroe and neighboring towns for your support of MCC’s Strawberry Festival!
