Parks and Rec.: Pool noodle sailboat race at Masuk pool, WSI certification

MONROE, CT — Participants in Community Craft Night will be given supplies to build their own pool noodle sailboats for a competition in the Masuk pool this Friday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Connor Negri, the recreation program supervisor, will lead this activity.

This Monroe Parks and Recreation program is for children under age 12, who must have an adult accompanying them. Lifeguards will be on duty.

There will be free entry for those bringing a nonperishable food donation for the Monroe Food Pantry. Registration is on the Parks and Recreation website, but walk-ins are welcome.

There will not be an open swim.

Water Safety Instructor certification

Monroe Parks and Recreation is offering an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification Class on January 9, 2023.

The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 9, and a pre-test will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at the Masuk High School pool.

Students must be age 16 or older, have current and valid lifeguard certification, and pass a pre-test of knowledge on all four strokes. This is a blended learning class that will have in person water skills and online computer tasks.

The class if $200 for Monroe residents and $225 for nonresidents. Registration and payment is required prior to the course. A minimum of six participants is required.

Those who do not pass the pre-test will have their money refunded, minus the $25 testing fee.
