Monroe residents star in Newtown Stage Company production of ‘Frozen JR.’

NEWTOWN, CT — Monroe residents comprise of much of the cast of Newtown Stage Company’s production of Disney’s “Frozen”, coming to Edmond Town Hall Theater, 45 Main St. in Newtown, this August.

The show will give its audience a break from the summer heat, as they travel into the snowy mountains with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven in “Frozen JR.”, adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture.

“Frozen JR.” is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for the ones we love. 

Opening night is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, with other showings on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets, on sale now, are $15 in advance, and can be reserved online by clicking here, and $17 at the door. Newtown’s production is co-produced by NSCo’s founders Katie Bloom, Erin Loucks and Ryan Loucks. Bloom, a longtime Monroe resident, is directing with Erin Loucks as choreographer and Ryan Loucks as musical director.

They are joined by a dozen or so Newtown and Monroe  area residents, college students and Masuk and Newtown High School alumni, who have come out of the woodwork to make this show a success.

The cast and crew consists of over 100  kids entering third to ninth grade who not only act, sing and dance, but also help manage technical aspects of the show such as moving scenery, constructing and decorating sets, props and more.

Among the cast and crew’s Monroe residents are Aria and  Quentin Hittenmark, Landon Bloom, Avery Quiricone, Caroline Shevlin, Eleonora Olteanu, Leah Morey, Lily Briggs, Lily Hoover, Noah and Michael Dono, who all attend Monroe public schools.

Leah Morey, a seventh grader at Jockey Hollow Middle School, plays middle Anna. Volunteers from Masuk include Cassidy Bloom, Delaney Judge, Richard Bierut, Jessica Poole, Kathryn Majersky, and Callie Rubin. 

Costumes are designed by Kristen Christensen who is assisted by Kristin Cassaldi, both of Newtown. Sets are designed by Katie Bloom and built by Justin Bloom. Props are designed by Ella Christensen of Newtown.

The show is stage managed by Dara  Willmarth, of New Haven, who is assisted by Cassidy Bloom, a sophomore at Masuk, and Tyler Violette of Torrington.

Alexis Brunelle, Landon Bloom and  Cassidy Bloom, all of Monroe, helped paint scenery. Delaney Judge worked as a choreographer’s assistant. Robert Primorac, of Monroe, serves as the technical director for the Edmond Town Hall.

The show will be filled with special effects, magic and even snow. Run time is one hour and 15 minutes. Concessions are available in the lobby and there will be no intermission.
