United Methodist Church of Monroe is hosting its annual Paper Shredding fundraiser in the Rite Aid parking lot, 435 Main St., on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to noon — rain or shine.

The cost is still $10 for a standard archive box (15”x12”x10”) and prices increase by $5 according to container size. Payment methods include cash, check (made out to: UMC Monroe with “Paper Shredding” in the memo line) or credit/debit.

A pet microchip scanner in Stratford

The town of Stratford announced the installation of a pet microchip scanner station at its Animal Control Facility, 225 Beacon Point Road, made possible by a generous donation from the Stratford Animal Rescue Society.

In cases where the shelter is closed or the animal control team is unavailable, this new microchip scanner station is positioned in front of the animal control building. This innovative tool aims to facilitate the prompt reunion of lost pets with their owners.

Those encountering a lost animal are encouraged to use the scanner for a quick microchip check. The station features clear instructions for operation, as well as a hotline to assist in contacting the pet’s owner.

A pet microchip is a small electronic device, roughly the size of a grain of rice, encased in biocompatible glass to ensure safety during implantation. Each microchip contains a unique identification number linked to your contact information in a pet recovery database.

It is vital to register your pet’s microchip with your contact details and keep this information current for effective identification. Stratford Animal Control offers low-cost microchipping services at $20 per pet, available by appointment only.

Pet owners can schedule an appointment by emailing acos@townofstratford.com.
