MONROE, CT — Masuk High School’s winter concert featured songs played by the Masuk Jazz Band, Masuk Sax Quintet and the Masuk concert band on Jan. 10.
“For those who are at your first Masuk High School Band concert, I’m really glad you are here,” Band Director Micheal Ances said to the audience.
The Masuk Jazz Band Consists of Veronica Field and Madeline Khan on clarinet, Jackson Conlin, Monica Glus, Harry Li and McKenna Rownin on alto saxophone, Benjamin Solano on trumpet, Aiden El-Sahragty on trombone, Grant Knecht on euphonium, Matthew Colberg and Avery Chase on piano, Jeremiah Purdy and Michael Daly on guitar, Alex Wulinski and Gavin Chase on vibes and auxiliary percussion, Caleb Purdy on base, and Jacob Ryan on drums.
The jazz band played “In The Mood,” written by Joe Garland and arranged by Micheal Sweeney, “Blue Train” (Blue Trane), written by John Coltrane and arranged by Micheal Sweeney, and “Coco Loco” by Dean Sorensen and Bruce Pearson.
The Masuk sax quintet consists of Harry Li, Denell Sidne and Alexandra Troiano on alto saxophone, Ari Ashe on tenor saxophone, and Ethan Thomas on baritone saxophone. The sax Quintet played Yakety Sax which was written by James Q “Spider” Rich, and Boots Randolph, and was arranged by Larry Nored.
The Masuk concert band consists of Abigail Troesser on soprano saxophone, Laney Stillway on french horn, Ethan Thomas on baritone saxophone, Avery Chase on piano, Grant Knecht and Cameran Meas on euphonium, as well as Chase DeSanto, Aiden El-Sahragty, and Megan McCaffrey on trombone.
On trumpet was Abigail Cappola, Samantha Davoren, Skye Eannotti, Grace Kehoe, Santiago Ordonez, Benjamin Solano, and Madison Troesser.
The percussion section consisted of Alexander Arcos, Joseph Bender, Ryan O’Shea, Lily Blair, Adam Briggs, Luke Campos, Gavin Chase, Logan Deloge, Daniel Kocan, Antonis Konstantinidis, Micheal Montague, Ryan Montague, Finlay Oatis, Micah Russell, Jacob Ryan, Kyle Saxton, Corey Schuelke, and Alexander Wulinsky.
On Clarinet was Angelina Colabella, Matthew Colberg, Cameron Covey, Tanisha Gera, Madeline Kahn, Katie Klisenbauer, Nikol Kupieieva, Jazmin Lynch, Emily Marciczkiewicz, Olivia Pjetri, Jeremiah Purdy, Chloe Shao, and Emma Troesser. Emma Troesser also played bass clarinet.
On Alto Saxophone was Michael Benedetto, Matthew Buzinaro, Jackson Conley, Casey Cummings, Michael Daly, Hannah Fedak, Monica Glus, Harry Li, Jude Mathien, Alison Merriman, Alexis Read, Mackenna Rownin, Dennell Sidne, Logan Singh Carter Smetak, Alexandria Troiano, and Daniel Tylutki.
Ari Ashe, Sidney Neto, and Margaret Spalding all played tenor saxophone. On Flute was Madelynn Carroll, Isabella Colabella, Emma Dachenhausen, Abrielle Jean-Gilles, Sienna Jones, Veronica Field, Jayla Lynchand Claire Noack.
The concert band played “Of Pride and Celebration” by James Swearinjen, “A Rollicking Hannuaka” by Randall Standridge, “Christmas Calypso” by Stephen Bulla, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff and arranged by Micheal Brown, as well as “The Star Wars Saga” written by John Williams and arranged by Michael Story.
During a brief intermission, holiday music was performed in the foyer by Emma Dachenhausen, Abby Troesser, Emma Troesser, Veronica Field and Sienna Jones.
At the end of the concert, Ances said, “thank you so much for coming tonight. We hope to see you all in the future at our other band concerts.”
