MONROE, Conn. — In a joint effort to spread goodwill and promote peace around the world starting in their local community, the Masuk High School Interact Club has partnered with the Rotary Club of Monroe to establish the town’s first Peace Pole at Wolfe Park.
The Peace Pole, which features the universal message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” translated into eight different languages, serves as a powerful symbol of global unity. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Wolfe’s Den Playground. The public is encouraged to attend.
Rotary Club president Ken Kellogg praised the Masuk Interact Club for their role in the initiative.
“We were excited to collaborate with the Interact Club to support Rotary’s message of world peace,” Kellogg said. “Monroe’s first peace pole is a powerful reminder to all of us that peace begins in our local communities. The students have demonstrated their commitment to our community by getting this first peace pole established, and we hope there are many more to come.”
Masuk Interact advisor, Lauren Iverson, also commended the students for their altruism and dedication. “The Masuk Interact Club provides community service projects all year long,” she said. “However, this project is one that we hope inspires everyone who sees it to carry the message of peace in their own daily lives.”
Town and state dignitaries are invited to attend the dedication ceremony. “We hope to see the entire community come out to support this great cause,” Kellogg said.
Following the brief ceremony, all attendees are welcome to enjoy refreshments and baked goods generously provided by Monroe Social and the Masuk Culinary Club.
