Masuk girls golf team’s performing at high level

MONROE, CT — Winners of 13 of its first 14 matches the Masuk High girls golf team looks to carry its momentum into the season’s stretch run — and beyond.

Coach Bob Pagel’s Panthers, along with Weston and Newtown, appear to be in the best position to challenge for the South-West Conference Championship. The pinnacle match is set to take place May 28, at Shelton’s Brownson Country Club.

Heading into their final match of the regular campaign the Panthers are coming off a win over visiting Weston, at Whitney Farms Golf Course on Thursday, May 16. Masuk shot a 202 to Weston’s 245. Alex Cecchino carded a 46, Adriana Lupo a 47, Abigail Yeager 54, Emma McIntyre 55 and Jocelyn Allen 68.

The Panthers beat host Stratford at Mill River Country Club on May 14. Masuk carded a collective 218; Stratford had only two golfers and did not score as a team. Lupo led the Panthers with a 46, followed by Cecchino with a 49, McIntyre with a 59, Olivia Cusa with a 64 and Alexa Cross with a score of 72.

Masuk shot a 210 in a setback to host Newtown (176) at Newtown Country Club the day before. Cecchino carded a 45, Lupo shot a 46, Allen 52, Cusa 62 and Megan Putman had a 65.

The Panthers defeated visiting Brookfield at Whitney Farms Golf Course on May 9. Masuk carded 208 and Brookfield shot 238. Lupo and Cecchino were co-medalists with a score of 47. McIntyre had a 54, Cusa 60 and Tatianna Fabryk 68.

Lupo was medalist with a score of 45 in Masuk’s 221-276 home win over Bunnell of Stratford on May 8.

Masuk will host Pomperaug of Southbury Tuesday, May 21 at 3 p.m.
