Masuk boys basketball team defeats Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — Masuk High’s boys basketball team went on the road and defeated Stratford 74-56 on Friday. With the victory the Panthers improved to 6-3 in South-West Conference play and is in a hunt for a top-four spot and first-round SWC playoff home game with four SWC games left.

Masuk moved into double digits in overall wins, improving to 10-4 this winter.

Alex Simoulidis racked up 23 points and had three assists, three steals and a trio of rebounds. Mitch DeBernardo dropped in 22 points and had five assists, seven rebounds and a steal.

Oliver Irving contributed eight points, two assists, six rebounds and six steals. Saijon Gavin logged six points three rebounds, two assists and four steals. Steve Sentementes added five points, three assists, five rebounds and three steals. Jayden Cassese also recorded five points to go along with two rebounds and a steal. Chris Welch tacked on five points and four rebounds.

Masuk, Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport, and Weston all have 6-3 conference marks and are jockeying for positioning behind Notre Dame (9-0), Bunnell of Stratford (8-1) and New Fairfield (7-2).

Masuk hosts Bunnell on Tuesday, Feb 4 at 7 p.m. Masuk defeated Bunnell in a non-conference/ Holiday Tournament matchup in late December.
