NEWTOWN, CT — The Masuk High cheerleading squad put together an impressive routine full of various stunts, including flips, tumbles and tosses during the South-West Conference Championships, hosted by Newtown High, Friday night.
Masuk placed fourth among 10 schools, hitting a perfect zero routine (no point deductions); Newtown was first, Brookfield second and Joel Barlow of Redding third.
“Hitting zero means their performance had no deductions for missed skills or penalties,” Head Coach Diane Gaber and Assistant Coach Jackie Bennett noted in a comment following the competition. “Not many teams hit zero. This was extremely commendable. The girls performed solid routines at our competitions so far in this season. They placed first place and grand champions at their first competition of the season on January 18.”
Masuk’s roster includes senior captains Chloe DuBois and Zuma Soriano; juniors: Sophia Fabrizio and Hayley Reis; sophomore: Olivia Maniscalco; and freshmen: Olivia Augustine, Zo
Alternates are Angelica Klittnick, Isabel
Those who were named on the All SWC First Team are Maniscalco, DuBois and Fabrizio; and All SWC Second Team selections are Soriano and Reis.
The Panthers are led by Gaber, Bennett and volunteer coaches Marissa Esteves and Felicia Anzalone.
