The Masuk High School football team is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser in the school cafeteria this Sunday, June 4, from 8 to 11 a.m. All proceeds support the team.
Textile Recycling
An Earth Day Textile Recycling Event, where people can drop off their used textiles and learn more about this recycling program, will be held in the Monroe Town Hall parking lot, near Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pollinator Pathway seed packets will be given away as a thank you for all donations, while supplies last.
The event is sponsored by Monroe’s Economic Development Department and the Conservation & Water Resource Commission, in conjunction with Bay State Textiles.
Every year, 25 billion pounds of textiles are thrown away in the United States, 45 percent can be reused, 30 percent can be turned into wiping cloths, and 20 percent can be recycled into new products. Turning this problem around can start in your community with recycling bins.
All proceeds go to Monroe’s SustainableCT Fund for future sustainability efforts.
All clothing and home linen textiles will be accepted in any condition. However, the town will not accept mattresses and pads, carpet remnants and furniture upholstery. For a complete list of acceptable items, click here.
Pride Flag raising
Town officials will celebrate the start of Pride Month with a flag raising in front of Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, on Saturday, June 3, with a ceremony from 10 a.m. until noon.
Barnum Car Show
One year after bringing the former Stevenson Lumber property to life with huge crowds for a car show with amusement rides, music and food trucks, the Barnum Festival fundraiser is back.
The Barnum Festival’s 2nd Annual Car Show Swap Meet and Food Truck Festival, Wheels, Meals and Deals will be held on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3. Click here for more details.
The first day will feature a concert, carnival and food truck festival and the car show will be held the next day. Admission to both events is five dollars and children age 12-and-younger get in free.
Free parking with handicap spaces on the 1545 Monroe Turnpike site by entering the driveway of Production Metals, 421 Old Zoar Road. Golf carts circulating the property will give rides to anyone who needs assistance.
Open Mic Night
On June 9, the Harmony Grange will host its first Acoustic Open Mic night to take place on stage at its historic performance hall, 103 Hurd Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m.
Audience members will be treated to local talent, showcasing their mastery of acoustics, both voice and instrumental.
The Grange is hoping to make this a recurring event, with shows featuring young talent to comedians. All ages are welcome and refreshments will be available for purchase.
A five dollar donation is requested at the door and refreshments available for purchase.

MCC Strawberry Festival
Monroe Congregational Church’s annual Strawberry Festival will be held June 17-18.
The festival features over 100 crafters selling their wares on the green at the corner of Route 111 and Fan Hill Road, live entertainment, the church food tent and homemade strawberry-flavored items, including jams, pies and shortcakes.
The event will have a bounce house and facepainting for children and more.
Musical entertainers include live bluegrass from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and country band Gunsmoke from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. Sunday, June 18, features the award-winning Silver Steel Band from 1 to 3 p.m.
Wiffle Ball Fun Day
The Monroe Food Pantry’s fourth annual Wiffle® Ball Fun Day is coming to Wolfe Park on Saturday, June 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, June 18.
The day will consist of tournament play and contests for the longest hit and pitching accuracy, while money is raised and food donations are collected to assist local families in need.
The Wiffle Ball tournament is sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and Jensen Tire & Auto Marine LLC.

Summer Book Sale
A summer book sale will be held at the Friends of the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library Book Shop at the library, 733 Monroe Turnpike, on Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The sale is a great way to buy an inexpensive book, DVD or CD to bring to the pool, beach or summer vacation.
Can’t make the sale? Visit the shop during regular library hours. It is in the left rear corner of the Children’s Library.
Concerts on the Hill
Christ Church, 59 Church Road in Easton, is hosting Concerts on the Hill Sundays at 6 p.m.
Admission costs $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and children get in for free.
The events include food trucks, BYOB picnics, leashed dogs are welcome. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and rain dates are Mondays.

Chamber Golf Tournament
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce is having its annual Golf Tournament at Whitney Farms Golf Course, 175 Shelton Road, on Tuesday, July 11.
The tournament needs golfers and sponsors. This year’s title sponsor is Clarkson’s Shipping Services.
Proceeds raised fund scholarships for Monroe high school seniors.
A $175 registration includes green fees, lunch, a golf cart, refreshments, dinner and awards.
Sponsorship opportunities include a $1,000 donation to be a dinner sponsor, $750 to be a lunch sponsor, $750 to be a golf cart sponsor, $500 for the longest drive, $500 for closest to the pin, $500 for a hole-in-one, $125 for a tee, $75 for the buffet dinner only, a $450 golf special for two players and a tee sponsor (a $25 savings).

The day of the tournament begins with a 10 a.m. check in and registration, followed by lunch in the afternoon.
There is an 11 a.m. shotgun start. A cocktail hour will follow the golf and there will be a 5:30 p.m. awards dinner.
