MONROE, CT — The Monroe Women’s Club will host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting this Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. (the rain date is Sunday, Dec. 4).

The event will be held at the gazebo on the green outside Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road. The Masuk choir and band will perform and Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on a fire truck to help light the tree.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be available.

Tree lighting with Frosty

The Save Our Stepney Task Force and Frosty the Snowman will light up the Stepney Green, at the intersection of routes 59 and 25, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, with more than 300 luminaries and the holiday tree will be decorated with over 500 LED bulbs.

The annual event will also feature Christmas carols and a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

The rain date is Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

Friends book sale

The Friends of the Library Book Sale will offer shelves and carts full of books with subjects ranging from art, business, true crime and entertainment to cooking and the occult. It will also boast a large collection of movies, puzzles and Christmas books.

The sale will be held in the Ehlers Room, on the lower level of Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, 733 Monroe Turnpike, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3.

Monroe Historical Society events

The Monroe Historical Society has a full slate of upcoming events:

Dec. 2, 3, and 4: Christmas Fair, East Village Meeting House, 433 Barn Hill Road, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Christmas and holiday decor, new and vintage ornaments, wreaths, baked goods, Monroe historical collectibles and more.

Saturday, Dec. 10: Holiday House Tour, featuring houses and churches in Monroe. A tour is $30 per person. Email Karen Cardi, [email protected]. It is sponsored by the Save Our Stepney Task Force and the historical society. For more information, click here.

Saturday, Dec. 17, The Shoreline Ringers: A Connecticut Handbell Ensemble at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 7 p.m. Featuring music, from Bach to the Beatles. Tickets are limited and available soon.

St. Peter’s Holly Fair

St. Peter’s Grace Episcopal Church will host a Holly Fair on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event will feature a cookie walk, raffle, vendors, tag sale and refreshments. All are welcome. The church is at 175 Old Tannery Road.

Happy Birthday Jesus

A party for families, focused on the true meaning of Christmas, will be be held in the St. Jude social hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10.

The party is sponsored by the Columbiettes and will include arts and crafts, games, caroling, birthday cupcakes, a Nativity set and a raffle.

Masuk Robotics hockey fundraiser

Masuk Robotics fundraising night with the Bridgeport Islanders is Saturday, Jan. 7. The robotics program will be the beneficiary of the 50/50 Raffle and Chuck-A-Puck fundraisers.
