Update: This concert is postponed because a singer in the band has COVID.

MONROE, CT — Abba Mia, an Abba tribute band, will perform in the Arts in the Park Concert Series at Wolfe Park this Friday, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Director Missy Orosz invites concert goers to bring their friends and families — and chairs.

Food and drinks can be purchased from Backwoods Dawgz, the park’s food vendor, and audience members can enjoy their dinner on the concert lawn area or at the Rotary Pavilion.

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert. Call the cancelation line at 203-339-6106.

The last show will be Common Chords on Aug. 19.

The summer concert series is sponsored by Gold Sponsors: The Arts in the Park, DiBlasi Associates PC, and Newtown Savings Bank and Silver Sponsor: Sippin Energy Products.

Advertisers needed for Masuk Football Program Book

The Masuk Football Club is compiling the Panthers Football Program Book, which is distributed to football families, friends and businesses, as well as at events and home games throughout the season.

Many of the books will also kept as mementos beyond the players’ high school football careers.

Local businesses have an opportunity to support Masuk’s football program, while increasing their visibility in the community by publishing an advertisement in the program.

Business Ads are $100 for a half page and $150 for a full page. All proceeds will be used to support the team. See the order form for exact dimensions. Ad layouts and payments must be received by Aug. 26 to be included in the program book.

The food trucks will include Backwoods Dawgz & Catering and The Coop.

Businesses interested in being a food truck vendor or in having a flea market booth should email Food Pantry Director Julie Banks, [email protected], or call her at 203-452-2817 or 203-606-3071. Applications are available on the Monroe Food Pantry’s Facebook page.

“Food trucks just have to get registered with the town of Monroe through its Health Department,” Banks said. “While we are not charging them an extra fee, we would appreciate a donation.”

Green qualifies for public financing

Democratic State Senate candidate Christopher Green has qualified for public financing through the state’s Citizen’s Election Program (CEP). Green has already raised more than $18,000 with donors from across the district, which includes Stratford, Shelton, Seymour and Monroe, according to a press release.

“As someone who only decided to run about three months ago, this is a clear sign of the strong local support for my candidacy,” said Green.

Green is challenging incumbent Republican, Kevin Kelly.

Through the CEP program, which was established in Connecticut in 2008, candidates in statewide races can apply for public grants to finance their campaigns — as long as they meet specific fundraising goals, agree to limit their personal contributions, refuse donations from corporate entities and do not accept more than $290 from any individual.
