MES teacher wins award
Sue Dixon, a fourth grade teacher at Monroe Elementary School, was recently awarded the 2022 Weller Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of her project entitled, “Buddy Kindness”.
The goal of her project was for fourth-grade students to lead a first-grade buddy in designing and creating projects to spread kindness without receiving anything in return.
As a recipient of this award, Dixon was presented with a $1,000 Award and a Certificate of Honor.
The Weller Excellence in Teaching Award (formerly The Weller Outstanding Teacher Award) program was introduced to the Monroe Public School System in 1990. The award recognizes teaching quality and innovation exhibited by classroom teachers of grades k-5 in hopes of encouraging excellence for students.
