Cyber criminal hacks email to request $47,600 check from a Monroe business

MONROE, CT — A cyber criminal hacked an email account at New England Home Delivery, 448 Pepper St., and sent an email to one of the employees with a request to transfer funds to cover an outstanding $47,600 invoice, according to a police complaint filed Tuesday.

Police said a check was shipped and was being processed in the state of Georgia.

The company made a stop payment request, but as of Friday, police did not know if it had been made in time to prevent the fraudulent transaction from being completed.

Shoplifting at Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop supermarket’s loss prevention department told police a shoplifter stole Tide laundry detergent, Corona beer and Monster Energy drinks Thursday.

A black male, who appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, entered the store at 12:33 p.m., took a shopping cart and filled it with the merchandise before leaving the store, passing the cash registers without paying, police said.
