Community judges needed for Masuk Capstone presentations

Dear Community Members,

Masuk High School would like to formally invite you to serve as a community judge for the 11th annual senior Capstone Presentations on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

While allowing our students to choose their own pathway to fulfilling this important graduation requirement, the Capstone Project is a culmination of the Monroe K-12 educational experience, creating a bridge between the classroom and the real world.

Students choose a high interest, often career-related topic, find a mentor in the community, and complete a minimum of twenty hours of fieldwork while compiling a portfolio of research and written reflections. As a culminating event, all students conduct an 8-12 minute presentation before a panel of judges.

The responsibilities of a community judge include arriving at Masuk on Thursday, May 25, at 10:15 a.m. All judges will be trained to use the Capstone Project Oral Presentation Rubric. Since this is the first time we have welcomed community judges since 2019, all judges, whether new or returning, will be trained together in the auditorium. After the training session, lunch will be provided in the library.

Following lunch, presentations will take place from noon to approximately 1:30 p.m. Each judge will be assigned to a classroom composed of teacher and community judges, five senior presenters, and a handful of juniors who will be observing in preparation for their presentations in 2024.

If you are interested in being a community judge for the May 25 presentations or have any questions, please email [email protected] or call (203) 452-5823, Ext. 7303, no later than Monday, May 1, 2023.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you.

Ken Rider
